Is it cheaper to buy plane tickets through a travel agent?

I have always purchased plane tickets online through discount websites (cheap tickets, travelocity, orbitz, etc). Someone told me it is cheaper to purchase through a travel agent. Is this true? If so can you offer some recommendations for a travel agent?|||I've compared prices of travel agents with the site I use on line. Travel agents can't even come close to online ticket booking. I use www.dropair.com. Their prices are substantially less than expedia, travelocity and orbitz. dropair.com is offering up to 65% off flights this Summer and an additional 10-20 bucks off when you select your flight. This site runs extremely fast and it's easy to use.|||you should use a travel agent in your area- you'll need to go pick up the tickets! ask around for recommendations

sometimes it is cheaper, travel agents have discounts with certain carriers... but they still look to make commission! sometimes it comes out the same, sometimes cheaper...

good luck!|||on line, the agent have overhead exp. they need their commission|||My experience has been online is cheaper, but if you really want to find out, do some research. Try several travel websites and price out the flights that are available, then call a travel agent and ask how much the flight would cost if you booked with them?? Most agents don't deal with only booking flights, unless you need a hotel, etc. Because there is not much commission on flights alone. For the best deal you should always book your flight and hotel together, you can save an average of $220!|||no just do it yourself and it's cheaper. there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.|||NO it is not cheaper going theu a travel agent. they actually charge a booking fee. I get my tickets from florida to new york on cheapticketsite.com, when i price them out they are like 8-25$ cheaper each. n e way i hope this helps.
