Im kinda nervous about flying across the world, What are the chances of something happening to the plane?
POSITIVE ADVICE PLEASE|||statistically. flying in a plane is safer than being in a car|||Hardly any chance at all! Keep in mind, even on 9/11 (the most tragic day for flying in our history), a very, very small percentage of people flying on that particular day were in a plane crash. Not to make light of it, because it was awful, and so were the recent incidents, but you have a better chance of an accident happening on the way to the airport. Yes it can happen, but it probably won't happen to you.
Airplanes are amazing. When you're on it you'll see. This huge metal aircraft is perfectly engineered to fly through the sky, take on all sorts of problems, and still get you someplace fast, and safely.
Get on the plane, try to keep yourself occupied so you don't think about it, and really enjoy your visit overseas. Pay attention to the what-to-do-in-an-emergency stuff, just in case you need it, but you probably won't.
Also remember, any time you hear something you think is weird, look around at the other passengers. Many of them are experienced travelers, so when you see that they're relaxed, you relax. Planes make weird noises.
Have a great trip. You'll be back in no time telling stories about your great trip. Good luck.|||"Your chances of being involved in an aircraft accident are about 1 in 11 million. On the other hand, your chances of being killed in an automobile accident are 1 in 5000. Statistically, you are at far greater risk driving to the airport than getting on an airplane. However, the perception is that you have more control over your fate when you are in your car than as a passenger traveling on an airplane. Experience shows otherwise, considering that over 50,000 people are killed on the highways every year."
You should check out the website in the sources box. It could help you get over your fear of flying. =)|||Danielle, you will be fine. Your chances of being in a plane crash are LESS than that of being hit on the head by a fish dropped by an eagle.
When was the last time you saw an eagle?
Today's aircraft are extremely reliable. Pilots would not fly them across the world if they were not, would they? After all, they have families, too.
If you are an avid reader, take an old friend along with you. You will get as much out of it the second or third time through the book, and interruptions won't bother you.
Enjoy yourself.
Regards,
Dan|||Look around at all the people in the seating area before you board. If you recognize anybody as being from the TV show LOST, I would avoid getting on board.
Other than that, I don't think you have a problem. Even with all the "air incidents" we've heard about in the news recently, air travel is still safer than driving on highways. Assuming you can handle all the air travel hassles these days, you should have a relatively uneventful trip.|||Just take your Bible and involve yourself in serious and heartfelt prayer.
And yes, the endeavor you are about to undertake is incredibly frightening. You are essentially moving hundreds of miles of hour over icy waters in total darkness. Add to this that you are sitting in a cylindrical metal object of 100,000 plus pounds of steel, rubber, plastic, and highly volatile jet fuel.
As a pilot, I vomited EVERY time I flew, especially before, during and after every flight over a large body of water.
God Bless You-
Captain Art Griego|||What's the difference? What does it matter where you go? If something happens, something happens.
