Is there a fee for landing a private plane at an airport?

I could see how some big busy airports might charge a fee. But what about those tiny, small-town airports? Most the time there's not anyone there. But you've got to pay for overhead somehow. Does it cost to land a small plane? Does it cost to park it there for a while? I am giving some consideration to buying a private plane, and was wondering.|||Most small airports don't charge landing fees, though some do. They make their money on hangar rent, fuel sales, and sometimes flight instruction or aircraft rental. Often they'll charge a visiting pilot who wants to leave the plane there for more than 3 hours or so, then waive the fee if he buys fuel.

Many airports charge landing fees for commercial aircraft, or aircraft over a certain size or weight. Airports in tourist locations, where they get a lot of transient traffic, often charge fees ($5-10 usually).

At large airports, landing fees are usually charged and they can be quite substantial.|||How much they charge, if anything, depends on the airport. The airport operator can charge whatever they want.

Airports often specialize. There are airports that specialize in commercial passenger traffic (landing fees $$$), and airports that specialize in general aviation with minimal to zero landing fees, plus GA-friendly services. The big commercially-oriented airports may not even have 100LL avgas for your 172, though they'll have all the Jet A you want for your 747.

In Canada the airport directory is the Canada Flight Supplement. You'll need to look in your local equivalent, plus directories published by people like AOPA.|||It varies. At the airport you are describing, I would doubt they have a landing fee, but most GA airports have fees for using a hangar or tie-down. I live in the Dallas area, DFW Airport has a landing fee for GA aircraft (there, GA is mostly private jet charters), but the airport I use, Addison, does not have a landing fee, just fees for hangar use. I would contact that airport, look in your Airport guide (if you have one) and there will probably be a phone number.|||Most small airports are funded by a combination of local, state and federal money and don't charge landing fees, but do charge for overnight tiedowns. The thinking is that you'll buy fuel, or lunch, or dinner or other airport service.

Large airports will charge landing fees to discourage mixing small airplanes with large numbers of jet transports.|||Not usually at the airport you describe. There are fees at most commercial airports like ATL, JFK, and some non commercial airports that are considered for GA, like Teterboro, Fort Lauderdale Exec, etc.|||Some do and some dont. Normally $10 ( landing fee ) unless you buy fuel. The same applies for overnight parking ( some do and some dont ) .|||There is a fee for everything everywhere.

And thats da truth.|||yes, there will be a fee.
