What to give dog to keep quiet during plane trip?

I'm going on a plane trip soon with my 5-6 pound chihuahua. She's a yapper. I tried 1/2 teaspoon children's benadryl as a test but that did not seem to calm her down or tire her out. What else can I give my chihuahua that is safe but will keep her from barking during the entire 2 1/2 hour plane trip. My fear is that the other passengers will hear nothing but barking during the entire trip.|||You can go to your vet, explain that your going on a plane trip and he should prescribe your Chi a sedative. She'll sleep throughout the trip.

As for the Benadryl, you really shouldn't give dogs human medicine. Especially with such a small breed like a Chihuahua, it could be dangerous and potentially deadly.|||My father is a veterinarian, benadryl is perfectly safe for dogs. 1/2 tsp of children's benadryl would have been the correct dose for a Chihuahua. No worries.

|||They make pet treats that "calm" your dog for rides, thunder, ect. You might be able to get them from a pet store, or on line at Drsfostersandsmith.com|||Since when were dogs allowed in the cabin?|||dog will be with the cargo let it yap wont bother anything but baggage|||first check with you vet. Dogs can be in the cabin if they fit under the seat in a dog carrier.|||check with your veterinarian never give medication to a dog unless vet prescribes , you could harm your dog , they have tranquilizers for dogs so please ask your veterinarian !!!|||hmmm..well i think you should give her your used clothes like tshirt anything that has your smell or perspiration maybe a big help..put it inside his/her cage.. she/he will think that your beside him/her during the entire trip.|||Some human meds can be DANGEROUS to your dog..

benadrly can excite under some circumstances....

talk to your vet....if you do not have one, perhaps one will advise you what to do .....|||If your on a flight for that long I assume youve seen your vet for passport jabs and tests. Talk to him he could give you a medication called ACP. Its a mild sedative used pre-op for operations and for calming down hyperactive and snappy dogs prior to treatment. Other then that try and keep her in cage for short periods of time to get her used to it and dont worry she wont be heard. Make sure she got plenty of blankets it gets cold in cargo.|||There are products to calm them down, I've seen them at petsmart (I think) or your vet can prescribe medicine to keep them asleep or calm.|||Since you've been unable to TRAIN the spoiled rotten thing....put it in CARGO!!

It can bark it's fool head the whole time %26amp; nobody will care!

Do *NOT* poison it!!!

TRAIN IT!|||I know some people who give their dogs benadryl the allergy medicine before a long trip in the car because it makes them really sleepy but I would check with a vet first to make sure and see what kind of ideas they have.|||Whenever I have flown with one of my dogs in the cabin it's always been a condition that it's quiet. You could have a problem if it's not. (ie refusing the dog in cabin on the return trip) If you know it's not going to behave it's best it goes with the cargo. A lot of airlines won;t take dogs in cargo though in hot weather. You need to check before you go. If it yaps all the way you may have trouble getting her back and have to find a way to get her back by ground.

Talk to your vet before you give her anything.
