I'd like to buy a plane ticket to travel in May, but I don't know my dates yet. I'd like to just go ahead and buy the ticket b/c the prices are reasonable right now, but I'd like to get a ticket that lets you pick your dates later.
Does anyone know if this is possible?|||Yes, it's possible but it's extremely expensive. You're referring to an "open ticket." This allows you to buy a ticket between two cities without specifying a date or time. You can book the actual flights later.
However, you cannot leave your flights open on discount fares, which is probably what you want to buy. Discount fares require that you confirm specific dates and flights at the time of purchase. You usually have to pay a change fee and possibly additional airfare if you decide to change your flights later.
If you want an open ticket, the airline will charge you a full, unrestricted fare.|||As far as I know you can buy a ticket for a certain date. If you want to change it, the airline may charge a fee. Some airlines dont charge, like Southwest for example.Contact the airline first to get there policy on that.|||5 weeks before a trip is plenty of time to find a good fare. If the fares are significantly below average (check kayak.com) then you could consider making a good estimate on the date. If you buy a non-refundable fare, then be prepared to spend $75 to $100 to change the flight. You can get a refundable fare and make changes without penalty but the ticket price is going to be higher. However, you cannot buy a ticket for an undetermined block of time.|||you have 30 days booking they will pick the date for you.
if you want "to know the number" just look some of my answers there is a number there you can asked them.|||These days that is not possible everything is based on what is available at the time of booking and the airlines need dates and times. If you buy a first class ticket or full Y coach ticket you are still gonna need some kind of dates and times but you will be able to make changes without penalty. If you buy a ticket now for a date in may keep in mind it will be non-refundable and it will cost you $100.00 just to make a change and that is not including the difference in the fare. If you can try to narrow your dates and times down and buy your ticket at a reasonable price and hope that you will not need to change it. By the time you buy that cheap ticket and have to keep changing it you could of bought the same ticket 3 times.
