Linear Algebra question:
How do you determine whether a line is parallel to a plane?
How do I figure out whether this line is parallel to the following plane or not?
Line:
x = 3t
y = 1 +2t
z = 2-t
Plane:
4x-y+2z = 1
Thanks in advance.|||If the line and a normal vector of the plane are orthogonal then the line and the plane are parallel.
one normal vector to the plane is : v (4 ; - 1 ; 2)
one vector of the line is (3 ; 2 ; - 1)
scalar product of the two vectors =
(4 * 3) + ((- 1) * 2) + (2 * (- 1)) =
12 - 2 - 2 = 8
The result is not equal to 0 so the line and the plane are secant (not parallel).
Graph :

*******|||If the directional vector of the line is orthogonal to the normal vector of the plane, the line and the plane are parallel. The dot product of orthogonal vectors is zero.
Let
v = directional vector of line
n = normal vector of plane
v = %26lt;3, 2, -1%26gt;
n = %26lt;4, -1, 2%26gt;
Take the dot product.
v 鈥?n = %26lt;3, 2, -1%26gt; 鈥?%26lt;4, -1, 2%26gt; = 12 - 2 - 2 = 8 鈮?0
The dot product is not zero, so the line and plane are not parallel.

What would be the most offensive thing to eat on a plane?
This question came up because my husband was mentioning how much he loves Maui onion chips. Then the thought crossed my mind why don't they serve these chips on the flights to Hawaii? I soon realized that everyone on the plane would end up having horrid breath and the following passengers would be welcomed with a plane scented with a wonderful perfume of Maui onion. So I began to wonder which other snacks or meals would not be a wise choice to consume on a plane.|||Durian Fruit|||i wouldnt want someone eating a tuna sandwich next to me... or anything that was wicked loud and crunchy|||anything w/fish or really smelly cheese|||cookies with "offensive weapons" in icing on them..
What are the statistics about fatal plane crashes within the United States?
I'm talking about plane crashes on major airlines, not like a private jet or anything like that. I'm referring to like a Jet Blue or Delta flight, and I'm only asking about flights within the continental USA, like from New York to Nevada or something like that. I've heard that the stats are 1 in a million but that sounds like it might just be hyperbolic.
Thanks.|||1 in a million is _not_ hyperbolic. There are lots of ways of expressing the risk, and that is one way. Regardless, flying if by far the safest way to travel.
You can find tons of data from the NTSB, specifically:
http://www.ntsb.gov/aviation/Table6.htm
Summary of accidents for US carriers from 1991, includes # of accidents, # of fatalities, # of flights, miles and hours flown.
Also:
http://www.ntsb.gov/aviationquery/index.鈥?/a>
Which is a searchable data base of accidents. You can specify date ranges, locations (country or down to the state/city level), airline, type of aircraft, commercial, private, scheduled and so on.
In the past 9 1/2 years (from 2002 to the present), there have been a total of 9 crashes with fatalities, in which a total of 157 people died. During that same time period (through the end of 2010), there have been more than:
. . . . 60,959,251 hours flown
67,639,054,000 miles flown
. . . .92,786,070 departures
Since about 100 people die from vehicle accidents in the US %26lt;every day%26gt;, during the same period of time, about 345,000 people have been killed in auto accidents.
It is pretty obvious which method of travel is safer.|||There hasn't been a crash by a major airline since 2009 and most major airlines in the US haven't had a fatal crash since many years before that. JetBlue has never had a fatal crash and Delta since 2006. I don't know the exact odds, but considering the number of flights in the US, your numbers probably aren't too far off. You can check stats here:

How do I find out which plane Im flying on using Cathay Pacific?
I need to get onto the online checkin and get a seat prompty tomorrow. I am very tall so it would help to see a plan of the plane. Does anyone know how to find out which make of airline Cathay Pacific will using for their London-Melbourne flights?|||Run a search on www.cathaypacific.com and take a look at the aircraft identifier next to the flight. I'm going to guess that both segments will be operated by a Boeing 747 (you will need to connect in Hong Kong), since both are relatively high-density long-haul routes.
Anyways...
744, 74A - Boeing 747-400
772, 773 - Boeing 777-200, Boeing 777-300
330 - Airbus A330-300 (I think)
340 - Airbus A340-300
EQV - Equipment varies on different days.|||It usually will say on the schedule and your itinerary (e-ticket) what type of aircrafts, but for those long distance flights, it will most likely be either a Boeing 747, Airbus A330 or A340 cuz those type of aircraft have longer range.
check your email. they should have sent you a confirmation email with the flight information on there and the type of aircraft should be on there as well.|||You will be flying in either a 747 or Airubs 340 depending on what time your flight is. Then you will use an Airbus 330 to Melbourne from Hong Kong.

What does it mean when you dream about flying in a plane?
I dreamt that I was going to NY in a plane. A lot happened but what stands out most is that my best friend's father who recently died was flying the plane. He came over, sat next to me and I asked if he was the pilot. He said yes, then started reading a newspaper. He told me he was taking a break. The plane was on autopilot now. Then he got up and said his break was over and he had to go back to work.|||sometimes it might mean you want to get away. But that your friends fathers dad who is dead is flying the airplane sometimes its the sadness you keep in your heart not only for yourself but mostly for her family|||If you are flying with ease and enjoying the scene and landscape below, then it suggests that you are on top of a situation. You have risen above something. It may also mean that you have gained a different perspective on things. Flying dreams and the ability to control your flight is representative of your own personal sense of power.
To see and talk with your dead parents(or friends parents) in your dreams, represents your fears of losing them or your way of coping with the loss. You may want that last opportunity to say your final good-byes to them.|||this was a spiritual dream (not in a religious form) in a inner insight of a person whom you knew in your past. flying means freedom and talking to dead people in you dreams but in a positive way like you did, means the person its letting you know they are in a better place and so will you. its sending you a message to let you know that their is a better place.|||well i will first answer the bit about your friends father:
This symbol is highly personalized, and should be considered in light of your relationship with your father. Generally, dreaming of a father (yours or anyone else's) represents authority, while mothers represent love and protection. If your relationship with your father was good, dreaming of him implies advancement and/or assistance from authority figures in your life. If your relationship with him was strained, however, dreaming of him indicates trouble coming from authority figures, such as your boss. If you're dreaming of a dead parent, especially if he or she is speaking to you, important news is coming your way. Whether the news is good or bad depends on other dynamics in the dream.
Ok so flying a plane i have three explanations:
1. Escape from the mundane exigencies of the lower world.
2. Freedom.
3. The search for higher consciousness. Travel into the higher realms.
and for the new york part:
The "hub of the world." 1. To be alone in New York City without any friends or companions is symbolic of being totally on your own. Whatever projects or enterprises you're facing right now are likely to have to be done almost entirely on your own.
2. The bright lights of New York City at night, especially if they blink on and off, symbolize an encouraging message that the solution to a problem you've been wrestling with will come to you in a bolt of inspiration.
3. Dreaming of hearing any of the vast number of songs about New York City represents reassurance that a cherished goal or project of yours will indeed manifest - with a lot of work.
ok so i hope you can piece together the information i gave you and hope it helps! if you need more information please got to the website below!

How closely inclined is the ecliptic plane to the solar equator?
And which planet is closest to the solar equatorial plane?|||Earth ecliptic is 7.155 deg.
Mercury is closest, followed by Venus.|||Also, kudos to "rich"
He answered the second part of my question how I phrased it, and not how I meant to (should have read, "which planets ORBIT is closest to the solar equatorial plane") sorry for that mixup.
|||There is a seven degree inclination between the plane of the solar equator and the ecliptic. Mercury's orbit is inclined seven degrees to the eclipitc, but that doesn't put Mercury closest to the solar equatorial plane. It would depend on the sun's precession, and the planets' location in their orbits.|||Good question. I researched this a bit and have not come up with an answer.
Except to point out that neither the direction nor the magnitude of the Sun's angular momentum vector is well known, because the rotation of the material below the photosphere is not well known (although it can be investigated through solar seismology).
Jupiter's orbit is by far the biggest reservoir of angular momentum in the Solar System.

says that the sun's orbital momentum vector is tilted 7 degrees with respect to the sum of the planet's vectors.|||The ecliptic intersects the the celestial equator at two points: during the vernal equinox and autumnal equinox. This means that the ecliptic follows a circular path around the sky, half of the time above and half of the time below the celestial equator.|||The inclination is about 23.5 degrees - as for which one is close to being in the equatorial plane - I don't know - maybe one of the dwarf worlds?

What are the essentials to pack in a carry-on bag on a plane?
We are a family of first timers going on a plane to florida. What shall we bring in our carry-on bags? Also, what should my kids pack and bring? Ages 10 and 7.|||some form of entertainment. the plane will have a movie, but that cost some money and they might not show a movie you like. i would bring a CD player or mp3 or some form of music entertainment. Then a camera, that way you can take pictures of the clouds. some books or puzzle books, maybe coloring books/crayon for the kids.
water/snacks. after you go through the line where they check you for any metal [at the moment i forget what its called lol] there will be shops around there, and resteraunts. you can go to some of these shops and buy food, books, drinks, etc.
if you have one a portable DVD player. this way you can bring movies and watch them.
an extra pair of clothes just incase your luggage gets lost or you spill something on you.
maybe sometoys [not noisy ones] of your children's that they could play with. or a handheld video game.
gum is also good for ear popping when going up and down, plus its something to keep you occupied as weird as that sounds.
i would also sugest going to the airport around 1 1/2 hours-1hour ahead of time for check in, etc. and then about 10 or so minutes before they start loading go to the nearest bathroom, so you hopefully wont have to go on the plane.
once you first arrive at the airport[sorry this is out of order] give your big luggage [not carryons] to the nearest desk area that is where it gets checked in. remember to take your shoes off in the metal detection line too.
sry if it got confusing
have a great trip=]|||I like to bring some kind of entertainment (like music, a video game, etc). I would also bring some kind of snack for them to nibble on during the ride. Just make sure that you have something for them to do and something for them to snack on. You can't bring drinks, but you can still bring food.|||Honestly, to sit on one feels a bit like sitting on a bus. Until it starts moving. And then it still feels a bit like a bus, except faster. You'll know when you get off the ground because all of a sudden you can tell there isn't any friction under the wheels; it's really smooth. You gain altitude fairly quickly and you'll be able to tell you're leaning back a little. If you're brave enough/lucky enough to have a window seat, look out! It's so amazing to see the ground dropping away. Cars and trees go from looking normal sized to little dots so quickly. It might be a little rough as you gain altitude, but to me it's exciting. You might pass through clouds-- they look just like fog. And then all of a sudden, you're above the clouds looking down on them. It's so awesome!
As far as the flight attendants and such go, they'll go through the emergency procedures before you take off. Point to the exits, show the oxygen masks, etc. Just like in movies. They make sure all the carry-on luggage is packed away in the overhead compartments, all purses and such underneath the seat in front of you, your seatbelts on properly, your seats locked in upright positions (seriously, just like the movies!). And then, depending on the airline, you usually get pretzels or peanuts and a drink during the flight.
The landings are what typically make people nervous, atleast the people I've talked to. It's one of my favorite parts though. The pilot will announce they're about to descend, so you know to expect it. If you look out the window, you'll see the ground get closer. They might tip the plane one way or the other in order to turn to the runway. The ground gets closer... but unlike the warning on mirrors "Objects Closer Than They Appear".... really the ground is still further away than you think! You might feel like you're about to run into a tree or something, but I promise, you aren't. The wheels will touch ground, and it may feel like you bounce into the air again. Once the wheels are on the ground, they put on the breaks, and you'll really feel yourself slowing down suddenly. Then they'll taxi around and let you off back into the terminal.
A few tips for your first time flying:
Take gum! Chew it during takeoff and landing. It'll help your ears from popping so badly. I've never had too much problem, but some people do.
Don't carry much with you. You probably won't use half of it, and it makes it easier to get on and off. (And come through security, for that matter.) I usually take a book and a jacket and an I-pod, although some planes have Sirius radio built into the armrests and supply you with headphones. Some people like to carry a change of clothes with them incase their luggage gets lost, but unless you have a lot of layovers I wouldn't worry about it. I've never had them lose my luggage, and lots of times when they DO lose luggage, they end up sending it to you by taxi.
Wear slip on shoes. Really, that's more for security reasons. Lots of airports require you to take your shoes off anyways, so the easier you can make it on yourself, the better.
And lastly.... this is really important.... ENJOY YOURSELF! Some people don't like flying, or do it so much it's nothing special, but it's really one of my favorite things in the world. It never gets old. Like I said, seeing the world drop away like that... it's just amazing. I have a photograph I took over the wing... you can see to the end of the world, really! The horizon line is way off in the distance, you can actually see the curve of Earth. And the sky is such a clear dark blue. Absolutely Stunning. That was just a little sumthin...
NOW TO THE QUESTION U ASKED:
I listen to some music from a C.d. player, Ipod, Mp3 players .. etc. This way, you'll be concentrating on your favorite songs and lip synching it versus thinking about the flight itself. Ok. So peeoples ears pop all the time! I suggest buying gum at the termanol, that way u cant forget or lose it. All u have to do is chew gum when u get on, and went u land. That is the pressure point...GoOd LuCk!!!Since it's your first time you will probably have butterflies in your stomache the whole time, I did. But it's really fine, all that happens is you feel a bit of pressure going up and it's a bit noisy but it will quiet down when you are in the air and if you feel turbulence during your flight don't freak out okay this happens. You can watch t.v. or listen to music during your flight and you get free snacks and drinks!!!! It's great, but the bathrooms are very small which is very uncomfortable so you should use the bathroom at the airport before you get on your plane, if you are a very motion sick person then you should have a barf bag ready and take some pills at the beginning of the flight! When you are landing you feel pressure and a bit of pain in your ears, afterward you will feel like your ears are clogged but that will go away in at least a day!!!! Don't stress about it, just enjoy your flight!!!!
Once you land and the doors open make sure you have all of your stuff, you then leave the plane and go to baggage claim, look for your flight number on the screen on top of one of the conveyor belts and that is where you will find your luggage!!!!You can bring any snack, but liquids, even toothpaste, water, deoderant..must be in a container 3oz or less...say if u have purfume in a 15oz container, and u only have 3oz left, u still cant bring it. Also, u have to bring all your liquids in a quart-sized ziplock bag, FOR CARRY ON ONLY! All other luggage can have any amount of liqid. Sure, u can bring ur psp, gum...i even bring pencils and paper to read etc...With electronics, wait til the captain says to use them.
For clothes, bring lots of shorts and ts...sunblock...beach towels...bathing suit...etc
have a fun and safe trip! here, i asked this question u might find usefull: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>
also visit tsa.gov!! http://www.tsa.gov/|||Carry on your reading materials, pills, cell phones, a pair of shorts, and a pair of sandels. All liquids go in the bags you will check. That means you will NOT carry on your bottled water, lunch, toilet kits, make up bottles, shampoos or sun tan lotions! All that goes in your checked bags. Before handing over your checked bags, look thru your carry-ons again! Pull out anything liquid and throw it in the bags being checked. Once you are thru security you can purchase bottled waters and food to carry on.
Security confiscates any food or water you have. They will also relieve you of any lotion such as hand cream. This is call the Bush Airport Tax Program. Security takes it from you and you then purchase it again after arrival at your vacation destination.
As for the kids, take some form of workbook or little handheld game. Something they can handle on their own. Also, airplanes can be hot and they can be cold. Multi-layer clothing is good b/c they can put on a hoody or strip down to a tee-shirt. Believe me, it's true. Flips are good because they are easy to take off going thru security lines and they will need them in Florida.|||No liquids thats for sure, they will confiscate, unless its under an ounce each i think and in a zip lock plastic baggie.
Another idea is to bring some nibble snacks like granola bars and a set of clothing in case your suitcases decide to go on a different vacation.|||what ever u need on the plane for that trip. just don't bring any liquid on that carry on chk w/ Ur carrier whats not allowed|||If you are looking for a great place to get travel sized items to save space in your carry-on, check out http://www.AllTravelSizes.com

When booking a round trip air plane flight is it possible to return earlier than what your ticket says?
When booking a round trip air plane flight is it possible to return earlier than what your ticket says? If so, does that cost extra? About how much?|||If your ticket allows changes to be made, then it is possible to return earlier than the specified return date upon payment of the necessary fees. These fees will include a change fee as well as any difference in fare that applies between the old and new tickets.
Because all of these charges are dependent upon the airline, the departure and destination airports, and the fare purchased, no one here can tell you how much it would cost -- the only ones who can tell you the cost would be the airline themselves. Anyone giving you an amount here is merely making an educated guess assuming some of these criteria -- the actual amount could be as little as zero, but could be hundreds or thousands of dollars on the high end.

How do you fly on a plane with a baby?
I will be traveling on a plane for 2 hours with my 6 month old and was just wondering about the procedure for flying with babies. Do they need to sit in their own seat, so I will have to buy two tickets? And I read somewhere that they can sit in your lap? Is that safe or ok to do? What all do I need to know about flying with a baby?|||Airline regulations currently allow children under the age of two to fly free as "lap children" (not required to have their own seat). International flights charge a 10% fee for lap children. However, this is not the safest way for a child to fly.
While some (not all) flights offer bassinets, the number they carry is limited, and they are not allowed to be used during taxi, take-off, turbulence, or landing. Some airline even prohibit their use while the fasten seat belt sign is illuminated. Having your child safely buckled in a car seat insures his/her safety.
In fact, the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration - USA),
CAA (Civil Aviation Authority - UK),
JAA (Joint Regulatory Authority - Europe),
and CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority - Australia) among others, and all airlines recommend children under 40lbs (18kg) have their own seat with a child safety device.
A CRS is a hard-backed child or infant safety seat that is approved by the government for use in both motor vehicles and aircraft. In order to be certified for use on an airplane, the car seat has to met the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Check the labels on the side of your car restraint for a sticker (words will be printed in red) for verification that your seat is safe for airplane use. The sticker will look something like this:
http://jamiehassen79.angelfire.com/flyin鈥?/a>
Many airlines even offer half-price tickets so parents can be guaranteed that their child can travel in a CRS device. You should call your airline to ask for a discount and/or ask what the airline's policy is for using empty seats. If you haven't booked a separate seat for your child, be nice on check-in and see if they can "block" the seat next to you. They will then only use that seat if they absolutely need it, leaving it free for you to use during the flight for your child (basically you are getting a seat for free for your child).
I have always bought a seat for my children and used their car seats for them in the plane. I HIGHLY advise using a car seat for your child in the plane because it is safe for the child - especially during turbulence, makes them feel secure, is more comfortable for both parent and child, will help your child sleep, and gives you the opportunity to relax a bit as well.
I've been flying internationally %26amp; domestically with my children since they were each 2 months (now 8%26amp;6, 9 months and currently pregnant with #4). At least three trips a year are the children %26amp; I traveling internationally (14+ hours each way) alone. We do another 8-10 international %26amp; domestic flights a year as a family. Due to this, I have written a small article about flying with children that goes more in-depth, gives up to date security rules %26amp; regulations for the US, EU, UK, %26amp; Australia, offers tips %26amp; tricks for the travel, etc.

What are the chances of a plane crashing? How many transatlantic flights are there every day?
I'm flying from London to Denver (Colorado) later in November and am worried about my plane crashing for whatever reason although terrorism would be top of my list for things to worry about.|||just look at the cabin crew - that's what I do - they look so competent, and they do it all the time|||Hey Ben,
I presume you are wanting statistics.
Well I don't have statistics. But...
I do have words of "comfort "...
The airports have introduce full body scanners in Gatwick and I think most of the London airports. So literally they are that high on security that NOTHING unpleasant could be brought through.
I have a friend who used to work for air Iran as a senior cabin member for ten yrs and she was in some peoples perspective a very dangerous environment and I can tell you she is alive and well.
Do not worry. It's understandable to be aprehensive bout trans Atlantic flights cuz of all the terrorism hype but if I told you that worrying bout sumthing that has almost zero chance of happening is a waste of your energy when you could be looking forward to going to the states! Presumably on holiday. So The only thing u shud worry bout is wat your gonna pack!
Have fun and don't worry! Not worth it xx|||Transatlantic is actually safer than flying most routes. The Atlantic only opens up certain directions depending on the time, so its virtually impossible to get into a mid air collision. Once you are in the air you are golden. Should anything go wrong, they can simply just glide to an airport easily.|||There are about 28,000 take offs within the US every day. I don't know how many of those go across the Atlantic, but it must be many hundreds. Around the world, there are between 50,000 and 60,000 takeoffs every day.
The probability of anything happening to your plane are about 1 in a million - really.
In the US, more people are killed every single day in vehicle accidents than die in a whole year in air crashes. In 2002, 2007 and 2008, there were no fatalities on any US carrier.|||Here's an interesting statistic. If you took a flight every day, from any random airport to any other airport, it would be 6,000 years before you are statistically likely to be involved in an air accident, and the chances are that you would survive it.|||1 in 576,000. Do not worry, the U.S. and U.K. are two of the safest countries in the world when it comes to air terrorism this day in age.|||We flew to New York in July, my biggest fear was not crashing, but having to sit around for 7 hours! Flying is very safe and ,maybe just a little uncomfortable, but safe!|||it's Cars that are more dangerous- car crashes happen*** Every Day*** in the World

Find locus of points in the plane of the charges where the field is zero?
Two electric charges q1=q and q2= -2q are placed at a distance L = 6a apart. Find the locus of points in the plane of the charges where the field potential is zero.|||The electric potential at a distance (r) from a point charge of charge q is given by:
f = q/(4*pi*e*r)
where e is the permittivity of the medium.
The potential due to a system of point charges is given by the sum of the potentials of the individual charges.
In this case, let the charges q and -2q be located on the x axis, at points x = -3a and x = +3a, respectively. The potential due to the two charges is then given by:

We want to know the locus of x,y points that result in F = 0

What happens if there is a misspelling of the name on the plane ticket for someone?
There are 2 letters switched around on a plane ticket of a family member of mine and am wondering if there will be problems with bringing him along the trip. If there is going to be problems, how can I fix this? Thanks.|||It can be minor but I would suggest that you contact where you purchased the tickets and tell them of the misspelled name. If they cannot fix it or somehow refuse to, then arrive at the airport early and have the ticket agent correct the error. You do not want any problems when going through security.|||When I book my tickets for an overseas flight I always have someone next to me just to verify the information. I check to make sure that my name is entered correctly as it appears on the passport or ID%26gt; After I make sure the dates are correct and I book the ticket I print the itinerary to make sure everything is correct. Then after its all booked about 5 minutes after the booking I call the airline to confirm that I have the reservation, request seats/special meals etc.|||Names on airline tickets MUST be the same as the valid photo ID you use to fly with. IATA rules allow two (2) incorrect letters in the last name only however the first letter of the last name must not be one of the incorrect letters. call the airline and ask about getting the ticket re issued, your travel agent should have checked the correct spelling before issuing the ticket.|||Just notify the issuing airline/travel agency,They will rectify the mistake and morover if the photo on the identification matches you should have no problem.
What would happen if you opened the emergency door of a commercial plane during a flight?
Would it actually open? Would the passengers be sucked out of a plane, and could terrorists do it?|||Emergency doors need to be pulled in before they can be opened. In a pressurized aircraft, even the smallest emergency doors are therefore pressed against their frame with a force that exceeds two tons.
Do you know many people able to lift a two ton object clean from the ground?|||The doors of a typical modern airliner cannot be opened in flight, because they are held closed by the air pressure inside the cabin. The doors are designed such that they must move inward before they can move outwards when they are being opened, and they cannot move inwards when the airplane is pressurized because the air pressure presses the doors against their frames with a pressure of several tons.
Thus, there is no danger of anyone opening a door in flight.
If the door could be opened with the airplane pressurized, the person opening it would probably be sucked out of the aircraft, along with anyone or anything nearby that were not fastened down.
There has been at least one case of someone being killed on the ground after opening a door with the airplane still partially pressurized. The victim was a flight attendant who opened the door before all the pressurization in the cabin had been eliminated. The pressure remaining was very slight鈥攍ow enough to allow the flight attendant to pull the door inwards鈥攂ut it was high enough to blow the flight attendant out the door and onto the pavement once the door opened. The flight attendant was killed.
Modern airliners have various mechanisms in place to ensure that all pressurization inside the cabin has been eliminated before the doors are opened. And if the airplane is fully pressurized, the doors can't be opened, anyway.
If the airplane has been completely depressurized in flight, it is theoretically possible to open the doors in some cases. The wind might rip the door away, however.|||Flying at altitudes above 10000 feet means the cabin is pressurized to keep oxygen in the cabin as there is no oxygen above 10000 feet. If the cabin is pressurized, the emergency exit WILL NOT be able to open, unless there is a problem on board that de pressurizes the cabin (oxygen masks drop).
Flying under 10000 feet, could be able to open the exit, although highly unlilkely. When the former President is flown home on the Presidential Plane, what is its Call Sign?
A plane that is carrying the President, regardless of whether it be the Presidential plane, a military plane, or a Cub Piper, becomes Air Force One. What Call Sign is used as the fly Former President Bush home?|||Some of this is true, some of it is not. I'm an air traffic controller, so allow me to shed a little light on this, if I may.
Since G.W. took off after Obama was sworn in, he was no longer President, as some have noted. As this is the case, the tail number of the Boeing (since he still flew in the actual plane that is normally Air Force One) is 28000. Hence, SAM 28000, or Special Air Mission 28000. We, as controllers, would refer to it as SAM 28000.
If, say, he was still President, since it is flown by an Air Force general, it would be called Air Force One. If it were a Coast Guard plane, it would be called Coast Guard One, and the same with Marines and Navy. It's respective of which branch he flies with. If he was flying a civilian plane, it would be called Executive One. The same is true of the Vice President, except replacing One with Two. Long winded, but I hope this clarifies.|||Well the Air Force One is a aircraft that carries the president. So using that I think that the Air Force 1 would be called Executive 1. Hope it helps.|||Any plane that carries the president will start with the military branch the one (air force-1=A2, marine-1 VM1) any time it is the vice president it is the same but 2 (air force 2), ANY VIP on board an A/C will be executive one no matter what the branch carrying it and the same with VIP and presidential families executive one foxtrot. Since G.W. took off after Obama was sworn in, he was no longer President, as some have noted.
Also, if the President's or Vice President's family is on board, we automatically designate the plane Foxtrot One or Two, providing the President or Vice President are not on board with them.

How can I fund raise $3000 dollars in two months to purchase plane tickets for a missions trip to Asia?
My husband and I are interested in going to Asia for a missions trip and we need about $2000-$3000 to pay for our plane tickets. We have to do our own fundraising to make this happen.|||http://urlkiss.com/1l is a great way to make extra money. The site will ask you to complete surveys and offers and those companies will then pay you. Unlike most work at home jobs this is one is really legit and actually sends real checks to you at the end of the month. I have already made over $2500+ from this website and keep it mind that everything is free.I will love to answer any questions that you might have regarding this just contact me:

First off, talk to the church that is organizing the trip to find out what they are doing to raise money or if they can help you to be able to get your tickets. If you are still at a loss, ask local stores if they will allow you to put donation cans in their stores. Ask all Christian stores in town if they have ideas. Ask if they will donate items to be raffled. Sell handmade crafts and baked goods. Have a barbeque dinner and sell tickets. Considering the cause, you may even find people from within the church who will donate money to buy tickets. Ask your church if they will make announcements at services and allow people to make donations towards the tickets there at church. And remember if it is God's will that you and your husband are able to go on the trip, the funds will become available. You may also want to research missionary groups that travel to Asia, aside from the group you are going with and ask them if they may be able to help. Team up with other people who are planning to go on the trip also to get a larger group of people looking for donations. This will encourage people, because there will be people who may think that you are gathering money for yourself and not for a missionary trip. How deep is the River Hudson where the plane went in?
Perhaps our American friends would take pity on a curious Brit. I have followed the story of the plane crash with interest, and much admiration of the pilot. I can't find any information on the internet or in our many newspapers here as to how deep the Hudson is at the area the plane went in. Anybody either know how deep, or else where I can find out?|||The River Hudson's depth at the point in question is actually between 30 and 50 feet deep. The river bottom is very muddy and murky and no actual measurement was taken due both to this and the fact that it was not an important factor relative to getting all the passengers away safely. Due to the river currents the bottom is not conveniently cut out to present a flat image. It is very rutted and dips irregularly; because the plane has a lengthy fuselage and broad wingspan a definitive depth of the water becomes difficult because there is not a sole point of measurement.|||My question is , are they going to make a movie about the Hudson Flight 1549, The Miracle on the Hudson, I heard that Tom Cruise was going to play the Captain.
I thought some fitting websites for the movie would be either www.hudson1549.com or www.thehudsonflight.com

I am also a Brit, now living in Canada. Hope this helps.|||Why is it important to know how deep the river is? I would like to know how many fish were squashed when the plane hit the water......|||Exactly 54 feet. This doesn't count the mud and sediment lining the riverbed, of course.|||Umm probably 20 meters deep?|||Not sure Steffi` Do you know any Germans? i am sure i saw some sun loungers` when they showed it on tv x

I am thinking about buying a personal plane and traveling to Africa (from the US) with it. Is it possible? Is it possible to do it with a boat? What is the difference between economy class or business class on a plane?
I am trying to pay for my own ticket and I want to know the better deal and their conditions of seating on the plane.|||Business costs twice as much (3 times as much when traveling international). It's a complete rip off. If you are an average size person that fits in the seats of coach (economy) then there is absolutely no reason to pay twice as much for a little more room.
A is always the window seat then B is middle and C is aisle.
D is the other aisle E middle and F window. Try to get a window so you can lean against it.|||Kim M obviously has no idea what she's taking about.
You're paying for much more than the extra space. For starters, the seats recline to form a full bed. There is a self-serve snack bar during the flight. Meals are served on proper cutlery, with complimentary alcohol and a full three course meal. Entertainment is on a large personal LCD screen with free choice of movies. There is a dedicated cabin crew exclusive to business class. Prior to take-offyou have access to the lounge at the airport, including massage chairs, buffet food, free Internet access etc etc. I could go on all day.
If you can afford, go business for sure!|||The difference is the money you pay for the seat. Eat a great meal in a restaurant before you leave and take two Dramamine with a scotch on the rocks at the bar before you board. You won't care where you are sitting but when you land you will have a whole lot of money left to spend on yourself.|||Business seat has more room, you get the meals before economy, sometimes better entertainment

How much a basic Ultralight Plane with two seats can cost?
-Does someone know how much a basic Ultralight Plane with two seats can cost?
-How expensive could be the maintenance?
-What about the cost of the license?
-Where can they fly over, are there limitations?

Would you feel safe if you knew a woman is flying your plane?

Women can fly sexist!|||No, you are just stereotyping... They do just fine, Statistics show they can multi-task better than men.|||. I might very well feel safer. Frequently Asked Questions:
Why is the International Society of Women Airline Pilots
called ISA+21,and not ISWAP?
In 1978 when ISA was founded, the original name was the International Social Affiliation of Women Airline Pilots. The founders wanted an acronym that some how symbolized their group and was also used in the aviation community. They chose to use ISA, also an acronym for International Standard Atmosphere, and the appendage of +21, acknowledging the original 21 members. (Used in aviation, ISA+21 would mean that the atmosphere was 21 degrees above standard.)

When was the first woman airline pilot hired?
The first woman airline pilot was Helen Richey hired by Central Airlines, a United States airline, in 1934. She resigned 10 months later when the all-male pilots' union refused to accept her. Out of piloting work and nearly penniless, she committed suicide January 7, 1947. For more information about female airline pilots and who may be first in other aviation venues, ISA has gathered information worldwide, and has maintained a FIRSTS database.
How many women airline pilots are there? In the US? Other countries?
This number is constantly changing and thankfully growing. Current estimates are approximate: 4000 women airline pilots worldwide, the majority in the United States. There are about 80,000 airline pilots worldwide.
How many of those women are Captains?
What with growing airlines, downsizing airlines, upstarts, and bankruptcies, we can only speculate that the number is around 450 women airline captains worldwide.|||Planes don't have rear view/makeup mirrors so are generally unsuitable for women to fly. They wouldn't let someone become a pilot if they cared about there looks during the flight.|||Yes I would. After all, most commercial flights are on auto pilot once in the air. The pilots are really only there for take off, landing, or if something is going wrong once in the air. So the question shouldn't be whether you feel safe with a man or a woman flying but whether you feeler safer with a human or a machine flying.|||Men are better pilots. Hello????? They excel as pilots. If women were so great at it, there would be more. And there are not.
This is to the female that calls herself "Hey There" - You mentioned Amelia Earhart as an example of a female pilot.
BAD EXAMPLE...HAHA. At least for this question it is. Amelia Earhart was the female pilot who ((((((((((GOT LOST AND DISAPPEARED)))))))))) OVER THE PACIFIC OCEAN IN (1937) ATTEMPTING A TRIP AROUND THE WORLD!!!!!!

Over the years, the emphasis of the organization slowly melded into a professional as well as social organization and the members chose to stress that and changed "social" to "society".

How long do you stop on the ground for the plane to refuel when going from heathrow to sydney?
when you go on the plane to sydney, do you stay on the same plane, and how long are you on the ground for , while they re-fuel the plane?|||BA and Qantas fly via Singapore, LA, Bangkok, Hong Kong to Sydney. You would have to disembark the Aircraft for security reasons and reboard the Aircraft after atleast 1 hour. This is also as the Crew changes over as they can't fly all the way to OZ due to their working hours.|||60 minutes|||Just depends who your flying with, Singapore airlines tend to be on the ground for 90 minuets, some stay for 2 hours but others for just an hour, if you look on an airline booking website you will be able to see how long each airway stays on the ground.|||A Boeing 747 400 series would not have to refuel on this journey. But it may be that a stopover is scheduled to either drop off or pick up passengers. In which case it could be around 2 hrs.You may be allowed to disembark in transit.|||This will vary tremendously depending on which airline you are using.
The cheapest stop like commuter buses and take days to do the trip whereas the more expensive (e.g. BA, QANTAS) can fly straight through.
Check your wallet then choose your airline.

How can I purchase a plane ticket to go to vietnam to marry my fiancee when I am in debt?
My parents and I are in debt because of me schooling at UC at San Jose. I don't know how can I purchase a plane ticket to vietnam to get married. How the heck am I going to have some money to fly to vietnam ?? The wedding is next year in July 2012.|||do what i do---------get a job!!!!!!!!!!!!!|||What is wrong with you that you can't get through SJ state working? I paid for myself for 6 years through SJSU and I bought a condo while doing it. It looks like your parents didn't teach you how to manage money since you still don't have a clue. You are not a good husband material and you should politely back out of your intended wedding until you get some financial smarts under your belt. Don't worry, most people are clueless in financial matters. But you can learn.
I suggest basics like Susie Orman's books or taking classes to manage money offered by community centers (there is a class starting in Los Gatos for just this soon) and organizations like the BBB. You can also get tips from good websites like bankrate.com which has good answers and info.|||Why don't you get some advice from Dan, Marcus, John, James, Jason or Jacob? They all seem to be having identical problems to yours. Or you could just be a pathetic troll with way too many accounts.|||Lol...you can find money to plan a wedding but not a ticket. Sure. Ok, David, Tyler, whatever name it is this week. How can you buy a plane ticket for a flight that very day?
Can i just go to the airport and buy a plane ticket and go to where i want to go that very same day?
is it more expencive or cheaper? how do i do this? where do i go in the airport?|||The closer to departure time the more expensive it is. Airlines dont release open seats at a discount price, its the walk-ups that pay full fare. First, you can't call the airport, that does nothing for you, they have nothing to do with the airlines reservations themselves. Call the airline you are looking for, or go up to the ticket counter at the airport for which ever airline you are wanting to fly. Just remember not every airline goes to every city.
Travel agents charge you fee's over what the airline will, so that makes it even more expensive.
Another contributing factor is going to be how full the plane is. If the plane is near empty you will still have access to the cheaper fares, but if the plane is full, they will sell you a full fare. Some online websites wont let you book less than 24 hrs before departure. Find the 1-800# to their reservations and call to book or head up to the airport. Just know that paying on the phone or ticket counter you will be charged a ticketing fee, usually $5-$10 on the phone and $15-$20 at the ticket counter.|||Yes you can, but 99 times out of 100 it would be more expensive.
You would have to have an idea of what airline you need to fly though, becuase you dont want to end standing in like 6 different lines.
So if you know you want to fly american and they have direct flights, just go up to a American Airlines counter and buy the ticket.
Be advised of one thing.. people who buy tickets at the last minute often get pulled aside for extra screening at security. I know because I end up doing that alot.|||Depending on where you are, head straight to the ticket counter at the airport. (However, some countries in SE Asia only sell tickets through agents.)
Often you can negotiate a cheeper price, if you're buying up seats that would have gone empty. However, if the flight is full, they'll often make you pay full price.|||In the USA, the most expensive fare you can buy is a same-day fare directly from the airline. One major exception is Southwest Airlines. They charge the same for a full-fare seat regardless of when you buy. However, the earlier you buy, the more reduced-fare seats are still available.
(I think this is true for Frontier also.)
Generally in the US, you get a better price for a 7-day advance purchase and the best price for a 21-day advance purchase.|||It is very expensive if you buy it at the last day. I recommend you contact a travel agent. You can also look online or just show up at the airport.|||you can call the airport and see if they have one available and more than likely youll be able to have them reserve it for you until you can go pay for it.

Is it possible for a plane to fly with one wing in an emergency situation?
There is this arguement with my friend that war plane can fly with one wing if one is shot off by blasting or otherwise.|||Sorry to disappoint all you naysayers, but it is possible. Here is a video of Israeli F-15 which landed with one wing missing. Granted it as almost acting like a rocket. Yes some of the video is CGI recreation.

|||No not possible.|||No. You can fly with working engine(s) on one wing but not if the other wing is missing. With one wing the plane would spiral and plummet.|||One engine yes (ETOPS regulations), one missing wing no.|||Not a chance. Aircraft have flown with parts of a wing missing, but any loss more than a third of the span would be lethal.|||It won't necessarily spiral directly into the ground, but the pilot isn't going to have the amount of control necessary to actually 'fly' the plane properly. He might be able to slow the rate of descent to impact less rapidly, but you won't enjoy the landing...if you live through it!|||The whole mechanism of flight is to have a balance uplift distributed evenly between two wings. The moment one wing is lost the plane will topple over and it will drop like a rock from the sky.|||A single engine airplane, if it lost one complete wing, would not necessarily spin to the ground. The still attached wing could act as a big vertical stabilizer causing the airplane to plummet sideways to the ground. At any rate, all of the above is true. I hope you never get to experience that yourself.|||No, Its not possible to fly a one winged plane unless you are lucky....|||There is a balence between the two wings. It's kind of like a scale you have to weights on both sides weighing the same and it will balence take one of those weights off and the other side goes down. The plane will crash, but not make a complete spiral into the ground. Also, with one wing gone there isn't enough lift to hold the plane in the air anymore.|||no|||Not possible to "fly" with one wing only. Thats like taking off the 2 right tires on your car and driving on a racetrack. The F-15 vid is amazing, but the pilot was the luckiest man on earth. In terms of survivability, yes it happened.|||No|||The Israeli F-15 was able to land due to the design of the aircraft, not luck. MD wasn't even aware the aircraft had this ability until it happened. The body of the F-15 is a lifting body. The pilot wasn't even aware the wing was missing until he landed, according to the interview I saw. Knew he had a problem, of course, but not enough of a problem to eject. Lifting body aircraft are nothing new, as NASA played with them in the 60s. I saw a couple of them in the Mojave. Very weird looking machines, but they did fly, more or less.|||Here's your full answer:
Logically, and aerodynamically, it is not possible, as the force differential between the two wings (or one wing, and lack of the other wing) would put the plane into a roll that cannot be recovered from.
The F-15 scenario, which resulted from a mid-air collision, is truly unique. Even McDonell Douglas thought it was impossible, and the wing was sheared off on the ground in some taxi-ing accident, but combat footage proved otherwise, as did all the eyewitness accounts. And since then MD engineer did countless simulations. Their conclusion was that the huge rear horizontal stabilizer, combined with the lifting body design, managed to keep the jet in the air. If I recall correctly, the pilot did roll a couple times, but managed to stabilize the craft before he lost too much altitude. So it's a once-in-a-lifetime occurance, don't count on it.|||Actually you can and it is shown by of all things an Isreali F-15 fighter jet that had his wing clipped and severed off by another fighter in an excercise.
Check it out.....This was on the History channel and is a true and factual story.|||Not a chance|||A normal aircraft would not be able to fly on one wing. A fighter jet has the possibility to do so, however keep in mind that fighters are designed much different then normal airplanes. The F-15 in that video was basically flying like a rocket, not an airplane.
A NORMAL airplane, if one wing is lost, will either spiral to the ground, or brake of in mid-air.|||true the F-15 did do it but only becasue it has like a 2 to 1 thrust to weight ratio. this is why the F-15 holds the record of fastest vertical climb (to 500,000 FT) for an aircraft. any F-15 pilot will tell you its like being strapped to a rocket when you go full AB. I have seen first had the take off then it goes vertical at the end of the runway and with in a few seconds its gone from sight. I have heard talk that the A-10 can fly on only one wing but true or not I really dont know. as I only seen the F-15 one to be factual with proof.
so besides that the answer is no its not possible if you watch old WWII film footage of aircraft getting a whole wing shot off at the fusealage. the aircraft spins out and straight to the ground. most likely the same would happen to most aircraft today.|||There were airplanes that were designed asymmetrical but if it was designed like conventional aircraft the answer would be no - cant fly no way.|||airplane with one wing becomes spiraling rock or rocket depending on amount of thrust the engine is producing.|||Nope as the plane would unbalence and the airplane would fall and plumet to the ground!

What would happen if someone flew over Area 51 in a private plane and wasnt aware of it?
Say a very polite friendly man was flying his private plane and was really high and was playing heavy metal when flying so he didn't hear the warnings. He had never heard of Area 51 before. Would he be gunned down?|||That would be the last heavy metal song he will ever hear!|||during a nation wide radio talk show out of nevada a caller called and said her husband was flying towards area 51. the host of the show got hold of the pilot and tried to convince him to turn around but the guy refused ,then the guy claimed that he was being tailed by some fighter jets then the pilot claimed he could see a blue beam of light come up from the ground and after that the pilot did not respond .and the radio talk show host thinks the guy might have crashed or have been shot down .|||Of course he would. They don't even know your purpose Who would care whether he was friendly, polite, or ignorant about it. They won't care even if it was a dog flying the plane, you'd get gunned down.

If there is a plane crash what the chances of survival these days?
I have been thinking asbout plane crashes and i was not sure what the poiont of seatbelts on planes are if you are not going to servive does any one know the ration ofd servivels to deaths on plane crashes ?|||It would be misleading to lump all airplane crashes together. The more common crashes are survivable, undershoot the runway, overshoot the runway, things like that.
You really only read about the fatal ones and then because there are so many people involved. In our news media, the rule is that if it bleeds, it leads.
Seat belts make small accidents small and protect the passengers from being thrown around the cabin in turbulence.|||Its totally safe on an airplane. Ofcourse, hijack and bombing and liquid poison are extraneous circumstances...|||first off the seatbelts are incase of a sudden drop in altitude, it keeps you from cracking your skull on the roof. to survive your chances are slim. put your head between your knees and kiss your A$$ goodby|||Slim and none! LOL!|||OK here is the thing there are more car crashes then plane crashes but they are more survival however there a very few almost no plane crashes yet its harder to survive one but remember the Concorde was an old plane yet it only crashed once and it was not due to a falure onboard the plane

What the little flap that flips up on the end of a plane wing?
Also when a plane is coming in for a landing, you hear something wind down like an engine is shut off or something. I'm sure it has something to do with speed reduction.|||The little flaps near the wingtips are ailerons. They are used to make the airplane roll (bank) to the right or left. Rolling in this way is the only way for an airplane to turn (like a motorcycle or ice skater). The aileron on one side goes up, pushing that wing down, and the aileron on the other side goes down, pushing the respective wing up, and that makes the airplane roll to one side.
I'm not sure what you are hearing, but it could be adjustments in engine speed as the airplane lands. Just before touching down, the engines are reduced completely to idle, and just after touching down, thrust reversers are deployed (they direct the engine thrust back towards the front of the airplane), and the engines speed up again, so that reverse thrust can help the airplane slow down. Once the airplane is rolling slowly, the engines are set back to idle.|||I think you need the Smithurst guide to flight control surfaces.
The wing first and foremost, is an aerofoil with its primary task in life to produce lift and get you from Birmingham to Ibiza on time and safely.
However, the aircraft has to be controllable otherwise it'd be like a car with no steering wheel.
If we start from the outermost edge of the wing we have the blended winglet which stops Wing-tip vortices and if you're not sure about any of these words Google has some great information about this stuff.
The next part we have the Aileron's and these are the primary flights controls for steering and to turn left for example the right aileron will raise but the left aileron will droop slightly as to cause more lift to occur on one side of the wing.
Then working inwards we have the spoilers which are the panels that you see on the wings when landing, these raise automatically upon landing however are used upon descent sometimes to cause a rapid loss of airspeed or to descent quickly.
The last things are the the leading and trailing edge devices known as flaps and slats.
The flaps are used for taking off and slowing down and are situated at the trailing point of the wing. They help to increase lift co-efficient and also to induce drag which is required to slow to the 130kt landing speed.
The slats however increase surface area of the wing at the stagnation point which is where the two airflows separate.|||1) I'm not sure what your talking about but those flap flips you see are probable (Wing lets)or (Ailerons)
Wing lets help improve aerodynamic drag, its reduces wing tip vortices. Ailerons move up and down on the aircraft wings so it can turn.
2) The engines are not shutting off when you hear them coming in for landing, the pilot is putting the thrust levelers to idle, Idle means that the engine is not creating nor is it shut, just spinning. When the air craft is about 50 feet from the ground he puts the engines to idle, so the airplane come in for a nice landing.

5-6-7-8) This is the HIGH LIFT DEVICE, changing the geometry of the wing the airplane is able to increase the lift at low speed (or to increase his angle of attack without have stall), this device is lowered before landing for "sustain the airplane's weight at low speed".

What is the luggage latch located at the bottom side of the plane called?(under the wings)?
THIS IS FROM THE GAME FLIGHT SIMULATOR X.
When an aircraft is near departure, people below use some kind of machine to load luggage onto the plane.
Some kind of part of the aircraft is pulled down to make this happen.
i need to know what this part is called.|||also called a bin...has drain holes on either side that sometimes get clogged...activates a sensor light in the cockpit when ajar or open.

What is the realism of actually getting shot down in a military plane today?
In the air force or navy, or any military branch, what are the chances of a fighter pilot getting shot down by an enemy plane or engaging in a dogfight? If the pilots arent really fighting when there stationed on an aircraft carrier for example near iraq, then what are they doing?|||Depends on the plane, cargo plains are flying so fly up in the sky they are safe. Fighter jets are so fast... The chances are close to zero. THey have flares that shoot out if a rocket locks on to mid lead the rocket.|||VC would set up traps to get birds fly over a certain area and them bring them down with AK 47's. German civilians would shoot at us on occasion while flying nap of the earth. Once the pilot circled a buck that was being chased into mown cornfield. As he flew a tight circle just over the tree's the buck ran in a circle below us. The Germans hunters numbered about 30. Several of them shot at us. One hit the UHF shark fin on the bottom of the OH 58.

What are the odds of being in a plane crash?
Both my parents are going on business trips late this month, one to South Carolina one to Portugal. I have really big fears of plane rides and I just wanna know what are the odds of being in one? Thanks.

What does the 6549 delta plane look like?
I would like to see pictures of the plane i'm going to be on?|||Yes that looks like the flight number. If you have a printed out ticket it should say what type of airplane you will be flying on. Who are the crew who guide the fighter plane from the navy ships to fly called?
They are usually on the deck who usually wear different coloured jackets like yellow, green and who just know the right time to aloow a fighter plane to go ahead to fly. They are usually close to fighter planes and they make different signs with their body which mean something.|||They are called "plane handlers".They wear yellow jerseys or coats so that they are highly visible and they are in visual contact with the flight deck officer who determines which planes are launched and in what order. No one moves an airplane on the flight deck without their guidance. Pilots are not allowed make any turns without their instructions to do so. Failure to follow their instructions can get someone injured or killed very easily. Pilots can not see what is behind their airplanes and the jet wash can blow an unsuspecting person down or even over the side. You can not hear on the flight deck with all the engines turning and so they live or die with hand signals or body movements. Ballet dancing is not as well coordinated. No ballet dancer ever died from someone else's mistake. Pure poetry in motion.
How can I get my plane ticket transfered from Travelocity?
I bought a plane ticket for an old friend in Michigan. She couldn't make it and cancelled the trip. Consequently, I was out $500. They said I had $500 credit. Now, my daughter wants to visit from Washington, and I've tried to get a ticket for her using some of the credit. NOW they say that only the original person, or ticket holder, can use the credit. How can I sue them, make them look bad in the press, and ultimately have their stupid dot com come crashing down around their ears?? THAT'S how angry I am.|||This is just how it works, not much you can do about it. The restriction that plane tickets are not transferrable is set by the airlines, not by Travelocity. An airline won't ever change the ticket to another person's name unless you specifically ask for a transferrable, unrestricted ticket when you book. Those are usually a LOT more expensive than a restricted, non-transferrable ticket--- the option to buy this kind of ticket doesn't even show up on most airline web sites.
The only thing you can really do at this point is ask the original ticket-holder to reimburse you. In return she can book a trip on her own and use that credit. Make sure she knows she only has a limited time to use the credit; most times, the credit expires after a year, sometimes even less.|||Do you have an account set up with Travelocity like Yahoo! or Hotmail?
Also, they sometimes don't allow people to exchange tickets orginally purchased from the passengers. It is a hassell, on top of that there is surcharges %26amp; service fees.
My advice to pal, call up travelocity and tell them that the ticket is giving problems when changing the names.|||You have no legal recourse. All tickets are non-transferable whether purchased through an airline or on a website. If you didnt read the fare rules you have no one to blame but yourself. Basically you should get the money you paid from your friend. Using travel websites is risky. Always book directly with an airline so that you may have more flexibility in changing tickets.

How do I help my 5 month old with a sinus infection flying in a plane?
Both my son and my fiance have had a cold that led into a sinus infection within 3 days. Both required an antibiotic. My baby girl came down with it last night, not bad though yet. We are leaving on a plane tomorrow morning at 8am, I am affraid the plane will intense the sinus pain and really hurt her. Does anyone have any home remedies? I am taking her to the doctor but her usual one is not in and I am affraid this one will not give her an antibiotic then we will be in florida without anything. He can listen to the baby's chest and see whether it is just sinus or if the lungs aren't clear. I did this with my 4 month old (4years ago) and was given the ok to fly. Even so with the recycled cabin air she developed RSV a viral infection that clogged up her lungs so that when we landed we spend 3 days in the hosital. Young babies get sick very fast. Don't fly without having her looked at first and have on hand whatever the dr recommneds should she get worse.|||Never mind any "Home remedies" I get so mad at this. If you love your baby you'll stick to what the doctor ordered.
I will tell you your right, the baby will suffer some but remember, the plane is pressurized and, at the same level as long as it's pressurized, as you would be on the ground. The problem would be is it a constant pressure and, is it going to be the same all the time. I don't think so but, I don't think other then some discomfort this won't harm her.|||5 month old babies can sometimes have a mild antihistimene like Dimetapp talk to the doctor about it when you see him.
I had a baby with an ear infection at 3 months old, he was supposed to fly back west with his Grandma and the doctor told me no way. So we had to take him by car across country.
Good luck on flying anywhere this year, Denver airport is still closed and many flights are messed up because of it.|||Call the hospital and ask the baby doctor on duty.
What are the procedures to bring a dog on the plane?
Hi everyone. I'm bringing my dog (shih tzu) on the plane with me. But I want to know the exact procedures so I don't get any surprises at the airport. I will be travelling from Canada to the US via American Airlines. I've checked with the airline about the prices and everything.. But what I want to know is when I check in with my bags and all, do they take my dog from me? Will I be only getting him back on the plane? Or do I carry him with me throughout the entire time (security check and all) until I get on the plane? So he's a small dog, which will be able to fit under the seat in front of me. But what if he needs to eat? The airline doesnt allow him to eat? (They say my dog needs to be inside the carrier at all times during the flight.) And what if he pees? I need to clean him!
I'd really appreciate answers . . . especially from people who've already travelled with their pups on AA. Thanks a lot in advance!|||You have to arrange it ahead of time, there's a fee with American. AA made me keep the carrier under the seat during the flight. It aggrivated me (it was a Yorkie).
When going thru security you have to remove the pet from the carrier and send the carrier thru x-ray. I had the vet prescribe a mild sedative since my dog way pretty anxious during travel anyway. Yours may or may not be willing to do so.|||Call the airline you will be traveling on.|||um, make sure there is no restriction flying from Canada into the US with the dog. Such as a quarantine. Then ask the airlines. Are you sure American allows pets to fly in the cabin?|||ok, step 1: get dog
Step 2: put dog on plane
and now you have a dog on a plane!
hope that helped. happy traveling!|||your dog has to be in the carrier. you can give him treats and water, but remember, what goes in, must come out. They don't make it easy because they really don't want animals on the plane. You will carry him on board with you, but even while your waiting to board he must be in carrier. I have seen people get escorted out of the airport in both Atlanta and O'Hara without a warning. I have to ask, why the heck would you subject your pet to this? Are you moving, or just selfish?
Lastly, don't expect any sympathy from other passengers, they don't want your pet on board either. Flying is very stressful now-a-days to allot of folks.
